Hydro One hosts virtual community engagement session for Waasigan Transmission Line project

Category:

TORONTO, July 21, 2020 - Hydro One will be hosting a virtual community engagement session on Thursday, July 30, to inform and gather community feedback on the draft Terms of Reference (ToR) for the Waasigan Transmission Line project. Developing the ToR is the first step in the Environmental Assessment (EA) process for the project. The virtual community engagement session will include a livestream presentation and telephone conference along with an opportunity for participants to ask live questions to members of the project team.

“Community engagement and feedback are essential in our infrastructure planning process. The proposed Waasigan Transmission Line project is a critical link in unlocking mining, forestry and other economic potential in the northwest,” said Daniel Levitan, Vice President, Stakeholder Relations. “We have been a dedicated and trusted partner in the community for over 70 years and we will work to ensure that local, Indigenous, residential and business community advice is built into the Waasigan Transmission Line.”

The Waasigan Transmission Line is a proposed new double-circuit 230 kilovolt (kV) transmission line between Thunder Bay and Atikokan, and a new single-circuit 230 kV transmission line between Atikokan and Dryden. The line will support growth in the region by increasing the amount of electricity that can flow through the system and provide local businesses and communities the electricity they need to grow.

The virtual community engagement session on Thursday, July 30, 2020 will take place at 6:30 p.m. CDT. To learn more about the project and to register for the virtual engagement session, please visit: www.HydroOne.com/Waasigan.
