Grant enhances accessibility in Millennium Park

Category:

The Township of Alberton received $19,608 in financial support from the Government of Canada through the Small Projects Components of the Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF). The funding, which was approved in 2019, has made it possible for an accessibility project to be completed, and offset the $39,405 total cost.

The project will improve access to the playground, picnic areas and pavilion at the Millennium Park for persons using walkers, strollers, wheelchairs, etc., through the installation of a level sidewalk system and concrete pads under the seating areas and to the pavilion. The work is being done by Daryl’s Landscaping.

The aim of the federal Enabling Accessibility Fund is to break down the barriers that prevent persons with disabilities from fully participating in all aspects of Canadian society, ensuring that everyone has equal access and equal opportunity.

The 2018 EAF call for proposals for small projects allow eligible organizations to apply for project funding for up to $100,000 per project under two funding streams: Community Accessibility and Workplace Accessibility. Alberton applied under the Community Accessibility stream, which provides funding for projects that help improve accessibility and safety through renovations, retrofits or construction of community facilities and venues.
