Sportsmen cook up a storm

How do you feed 250 people in three hours—and still have food left over? Just as anyone helping out at the annual Seniors’ Fish Fry at Sunny Cove Camp on Sunday.

It was like being in Santa’s workshop that morning, with close to 20 volunteers from the Fort Frances Sportsmen’s Club peeling more than 100 pounds of potatoes, chopping onions, and dipping fish.

Terry Fox Run set for Sept. 14

The organizer of the annual Terry Fox Run here is looking for “bigger and better” numbers this year.

Slated for Sunday, Sept. 14 at 3 p.m. starting from the curling club, Steve Maki is hoping to surpass last year’s run, which saw 120 people raise about $8,000 for cancer research.

Attendance up at museum sites

The Tower, “Hallett” and Fort St. Pierre sites at Pither’s Point closed their doors for the summer Aug. 24 after attracting about 2,000 visitors—up nearly 200 over last year.

“Attendance was up a little bit, and the Tower is still our most popular spot,” museum curator Pam Hawley noted last week.
